About ZoomInfo
ZoomInfo is a global leader in go-to-market software, providing sales, marketing, and operations teams with the data and insights they need to win. With thousands of customers worldwide, ZoomInfo operates in complex multi-account AWS environments, where resilience, uptime, and fast incident response are critical.
The Challenge
As ZoomInfo scaled rapidly, resiliency challenges multiplied:
- Fragmented visibility: Expanding across multiple AWS accounts, ZoomInfo lacked a unified view of resources such as Amazon RDS instances, S3 buckets, and VPCs.
- Slow incident response: During P1 incidents, engineers struggled to locate resource owners, validate RDS backup policies, or untangle VPC configurations in time.
- DR planning gaps: Disaster Recovery (DR) drills were rare, complex, and manual making it difficult to consistently validate Recovery Time Objectives (RTOs) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPOs) across AWS workloads.
The result: while ZoomInfo’s resiliency goals were clear, execution was slow and error-prone, leaving critical workloads exposed during outages.
The Firefly Solution
ZoomInfo turned to Firefly’s Agentic Cloud Automation Platform and its Backstage Plugin to transform resilience and Disaster Recovery on AWS.
With Firefly, ZoomInfo gained a unified and automated approach:
- Unified System-of-Record: Firefly continuously scanned ZoomInfo’s AWS footprint, covering services like Amazon RDS, Amazon S3, Amazon EC2, VPCs, and consolidated all configurations into a single, always-accurate source of truth.
- Clear ownership mapping: Every AWS resource was linked to its Terraform definition, repository, and owning team, solving the “who owns what” problem.
- Backup validation: Firefly automatically checked RDS snapshot retention, S3 versioning, and backup policies across accounts to ensure recoverability.
- Network resilience: By mapping VPC configurations, Firefly validated that services had the correct network boundaries for DR scenarios.
- DR automation: In case of a disaster, incident, or DR test, Firefly could rapidly redeploy infrastructure including RDS instances and VPC topologies, into a target AWS account or region, strengthening failover readiness.
The Results
With Firefly, ZoomInfo achieved measurable improvements in resiliency and DR readiness:
- Faster Mean Time to Detect (MTTD)and Respond (MTTR): Engineers could immediately identify resource owners, validate RDS configurations, and resolve P1 incidents without hunting through multiple AWS consoles.
- 80% faster DR testing cycles: DR drills that once required weeks of preparation and manual validation now took hours.
- Improved RTO/RPO posture: Firefly’s continuous SoR and redeployment automation allowed ZoomInfo to meet strict recovery objectives across AWS workloads.
- Higher test frequency: Firefly enabled ZoomInfo to move from annual DR exercises to running them quarterly or even monthly.
- Audit-ready compliance: Continuous validation of RDS backups and VPC rules provided the evidence ZoomInfo needed for internal reviews and compliance audits.
- Increased uptime and availability: Automated drift detection and resilient redeployment reduced the risk of outages for mission-critical services.
- Greater customer confidence: With validated resiliency processes, ZoomInfo strengthened trust in its ability to keep services available even during disruptions.
Strategic Impact
By embedding Firefly into its AWS workflows, ZoomInfo transformed Disaster Recovery from a reactive, manual process into a predictive, automated, and audit-ready resiliency framework.
Firefly is fully built and deployed on AWS to deliver its Infrastructure-as-Code management and cloud governance solution at scale. As part of the AWS ISV-Accelerate program and holding the AWS DevOps ISV Competency, Firefly works closely with AWS to co-sell, drive customer success, and help organizations optimize and govern their cloud environments.
